For a long time Javersith, the Goddess of Mercy, simply walked the ace of Tal'Vorn in wonder, astounded at everything She saw across the world, from the silent plains of the Dragon Isle, to the windswept moors of Ilattaerar, from the deep deserts in the heart of the Western Land to the dark jungles of in the south of the Eastern Land. And everywhere She walked Her wonder was ruined by the pain and death that followed all of the other Races. It is said that that Goddess of Love also became known as the Goddess of Sorrow because of the thousands of tears She shed in that time, one for each life that even Her skills were unable to save from death.

Javersith missed the creation of the other Races as She came to Tal'Vorn later then the other Gods save Ievar and Heave and as such was unaware of how She could craft a Race to aid Her in healing the sick and saving the wounded. Until. that is, her divine brothers, Grathis and Timus, noticed her plight. The two Gods, of Knowledge and Time respectively, were responsible for the crafting of two of Tal'Vorn's strangest Races, the lanky Ether Walkers and minute Mani. As such they were well aware of what was involved in crafting a Race.

Javersith eagerly accepted their help, wanting to put an end to the suffering on Tal'Vorn as swiftly as possible. With the trio of Gods working, it was not long before Javersith was able to bring to life the first of her Fairies, the race blessed with the delicate butterfly or insect-like wings that adorned Javersith's own back. Though physically the same size and build as humans, the Fairies are given the kindness that only the Goddess of Mercy and Love can truly share, their features seemingly always either smiling, or crying, never showing any signs of anger or hatred.

As a Race, the Fairies are unique in that they show no signs of favouritism amidst any of the other Races, they never choose sides or refuse to heal anyone. Indeed the Healer Sect is one of the only Tal'Vorn Sects with a majority non-human population, the Sect mostly consisting of Fairies. From a young age, the Race is given instinctive knowledge of how to sooth pain and repair physical and mental damage, as well as cast spells that do the same thing.

After Javersith finally left Tal'Vorn, the Fairies continued the Goddess work, striving to save whoever needed them, at any time that they were needed. Yet even the Fairies are not totally innocent in their past. They fought against humanity in the Great War after hearing Vralic speak of what the humans had done to innocent DragonLords. Fully believing that the humans had to be stopped, had to be shown the error of their ways, even if the method chosen by Vralic was not one they liked, the Fairies threw in their lot with the Elder Races.

Indeed without the aid of the Fairies the casualties in the war, horrendous as they were, would have been beyond counting if not for the tireless efforts of the Healers. They worked day and night for twelve years to save whatever lives they could, be they human, DragonLord, Elf, Merman, Demon, Mist Devil, Anvar or any of the other Races. This selflessness even reached the eyes of the humans, their troops refusing to open fire upon the Fairies as the Healers moved about the battlefield, moving the injured off to safer locations.

In fact it is thought by several modern scholars that Vralic actually gave permission to a small group of Healers to enter Primus and help the human doctors, an action which the Dragon King must have known would simply cause the war to go on longer and yet he chose to do it anyway. Whether this was due to a request from the Fairies or simply through the nobility of his own heart is something that will probably never be known as Vralic is unwilling to speak of the war, and the Fairies alive at the time have long since joined Javersith.

In the aftermath of the Great War, as Vralic pondered just what to do with the captured humans, he drew together the leaders of the Elder Races and asked them their opinions of the matter. Many of the Races, especially the Mist Devils, Beasts, Anvar and Demons, called for the absolute destruction of the invaders simply to prevent anything like this happening again. The Ether Walkers refused to comment, as did the Angels, but the other Races, the Elves, Mermen, Dwarves, DragonLords (represented by Drake FrostHeart) were spearheaded by the Fairies in almost demanding that Vralic show mercy.

Though the debate probably raged for many hours, Vralic eventually reached his choice, an action that probably forever alienated the more aggressive Races from the others ever since. He chose to show mercy. However he commanded that the other Races not move to slay nor to aid the humans, or he himself would descend upon the invaders and wipe them from Tal'Vorn's face.

The Fairies, though they outwardly agreed to this term, could not stand by as the humans died in the harsh lands the Dragon King sent them to. Slowly at first, in ones and twos, but then in a flood, the Fairies moved to aid the humans, healing where they could and comforting when they couldn't save a life. Yet the Fairies were not stupid. They knew full well that they were disobeying a direct order from Vralic, knew full well they were risking their lives and the lives of all the humans. As such they did not teach the humans any kind of magic, knowing that to do so would most certainly seal the invaders fates.

Yet when Vralic found out about this, as he was inevitably going to do, it is said that he simply smiled and dismissed the messenger, choosing to take no action against the Fairies for their actions. Most scholars think that this is because the Dragon King was actually expecting the Healers to rush to humanity's aid and had deliberately not prevented such a thing from occurring. Unfortunately this choice made Vralic even more unpopular with Races such as the Demons and Mist Devils. Even some of the DragonLords opposed the choice and there was a rash of murders and bloody slaughtering in the fledgling human colonies until Vralic appealed to Drake FrostHeart. Within a day the attacks stopped, though whether this is because Drake was responsible for them in the first place or if he knew who was killing humans is unknown.

Time passed and the Ether Walkers got involved where they shouldn't and taught the humans magic. When this too was not met with death and destruction at the hands of Vralic, the Fairies began cautiously revealing a few of their lesser spells to the most skilled humans. In fact when the humans created their Magus Council, their ruling body, the Fairies where actually offered a seat and a Sect in recognition of everything they had done to help humanity.

Since then not much has changed. Fairies are still the major players in the Healer Sect, the Lady Healer is still a Fairy, the Healers still help any who ask for it, and the other Races still hesitate to strike down a Healer. Of course there are certain Races that will just kill a Healer out of hand, such as the Beasts, Mist Devils and Pravaii, but then they would kill anyone out of hand so it doesn't mean much in the long run.

The Fairies are both kind and caring. They genuinely love all living things and take a delight in seeing new wonders upon Tal'Vorn. They are almost childlike in their innocence and yet show remarkable matter-of-factness in dealing with even the most horrific of injuries. They loathe war and long for peace, long for a time when they will no longer be needed, when the other Races and humans will no longer flood to their Houses of Healing for help.

"Hey! You! Yes you, the Demon! Come here and put pressure on this wound. Yes, that's it. Now don't let go. Ahhh, good. See, wasn't that hard was it?"
